The network of refugee community based structures in Shagarab camps, made up of community volunteers and other community groups, are fully engaged in spreading COVID-19 prevention messages.
Telling the Real Story refugee outreach volunteers conducted door to door visits to distribute COVID-19 prevention information leaflets to refugees and asylum seekers at the Reception Centre in Shagarab I. Messages are focused on healthy hygiene practices, and dispelling myths and misinformation about the pandemic.
The volunteers, in the Shagarab Camps, have also recorded messages in digital audio formats in Tigrinya and Arabic, for dissemination during information campaigns. These messages will be shared through public address systems, mobile speakers and also on social media platforms. Additional information includes safe practices (handling money, shopping, cleaning vegetables and greetings), coping with stress and care for the ill, entire households as well as caregivers.
