They are trying to cope with haunting memories of what they saw and experienced on the journey from Nigeria through Niger and Libya and across the Mediterranean. They were shocked when they realised that the persons they thought were benign smugglers taking them to a decent job in Europe actually were traffickers taking them to sex slavery. They were brutally abused during the journey through Libya and feared for their lives.

Although these women have luckily escaped and are living in a safe house in Germany, they are still being harassed by the traffickers who call them or their families demanding money. The worry about what the criminals could do to their families is an additional burden on top of the trauma they have gone through.
– NORAThe Madam is threatening my mother back home with voodoo and says if I don’t pay she’ll kill me anytime I set foot in Africa. She keeps threatening that I’ll die if I don’t pay her.
– TINAMy fear is that they could hurt my parents because my father and mother are old. That’s the fear I have, that they would hurt them or my brother and sister.They threaten them. I myself was surprised how they found out where my family lived.
